This is the webpage for
documents pertaining to The Walnut Creek
Watershed in Contra Costa County, California. This project is just
getting underway as of the latter half of the year 2006. Discussions
are underway in partnership with LifeGarden,
and within the framework of the Contra
Costa Watershed Forum.
At this time it is envisioned that
a Walnut Creek Watershed Council
will be formed as a working group to carry forward and enhance dormant
plans from the early 1990's by bringing together the many
interested but disparate groups that operate within the area. The
map is the first step in gaining community awareness of the Walnut
Creek Watershed by showing the connections between the nine-city area,
it's creeks, wetlands, culturally significant areas, and the San
Francisco Bay-Delta Estuary.
This was the finale in a series of
presentations for an AP Biology class as part of fulfilling an
education requirement by The City of Walnut Creek's NPDES stormwater
permit. Subject matter included an overview of the creek system in the
Walnut Creek Watershed, local/regional, ecological & social
history,
as well as stormwater pollution issues, and why it's important.
The purpose of this presentation was to
alert the community to the needs and environmental opportunities in the
Walnut Creek Watershed, with a focus on restoring steelhead migration
throughout the creek system.
